Our Approach

Less a packaged trip,
more a ride with friends
who know the roads.

"What sets us apart is the people. Riders, professionals, travelers ourselves — we share the kind of roads, cafe stops, and stories you'd hope a knowledgeable local friend would show you."

i.

Small Groups, Always

A maximum of ten guests per tour. Big enough to ride as a true group, small enough that everyone is known by name and the day's pace can be shaped around the people in it.

ii.

Local Guides Who Get It

Our guides are experts on the local roads we will be riding. We are riders, professionals and travelers ourselves — relatable company on and off the bike. We believe the experience goes beyond the superb riding.

iii.

Fully Supported

A two-to-three person team accompanies every daily ride, handling logistics, mechanical assistance, and on-road support so you can focus on the riding and the company.

The Journeys

Where the pros
come to train.

Our flagship tours are based in Alicante — a region favored by professional cycling teams for its mild climate, varied terrain, and exceptional roads. From here, our portfolio is progressively expanding across Spain.

◆ 6 Days◆ Valencia to Altea◆ Road & Gravel

The Alicante Flagship

Six days from Valencia to Altea, on the roads that draw professional teams to this corner of Spain. The week opens with a stretch-the-legs ride south through the Albufera wetlands, builds to the Coll de Rates and the climbs above Guadalest, and includes a gravel day through the inland sierras. Three hotels along the way — Hospes Palau de la Mar in Valencia, Posada del Mar in Dénia, and Hotel La Serena in Altea — chosen for atmosphere as much as location. Two route options each day, averaging 25 or 65 miles respectively. Meals throughout, from memorable lunches in mountain villages to Michelin-starred dinners on the coast.

  • Day 1Valencia · arrival, welcome cocktail and dinner in the old town. Overnight at Hospes Palau de la Mar.
  • Day 2South to Dénia along the Albufera · wetlands and rice paddies, lunch on the coast. Two nights at Posada del Mar.
  • Day 3The Coll de Rates · the climb that draws the pro teams, ridden at your own pace
  • Day 4Gravel day through the inland sierras · onward to Altea for two nights at Hotel La Serena
  • Day 5Castell de Guadalest and the Serra de Bernia · hilltop castles, mountain passes, and a long lunch in the valley
  • Day 6Farewell coastal ride · the Mediterranean below, and a final lunch to mark the week

What's Included

Considered down to the smallest detail.

Once you arrive, the logistics are ours to handle. Our small support team takes care of the moving parts so you can focus on what matters.

"We started The Bike Journey because the trips we wanted to take didn't exist. Tours that felt like riding with friends, in places where the riding is genuinely worth the trip, with the kind of small group where everyone is known by name. That is still what we are building — one journey at a time."

Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

A few of the things guests most often ask before joining us. If yours isn't here, we'd be glad to answer it directly.

Our tours are designed for confident recreational cyclists who ride regularly and are comfortable with a full day in the saddle. You don't need to be a racer — with e-bikes available and a support vehicle on every ride, we can accommodate a range of abilities within the same group. If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll talk through your riding background.

Two route options each day — a shorter route averaging 25 miles and a longer route averaging 65 miles. Both visit the same key moments of the day, so the choice is yours each morning, and you can mix the two across the week. The support vehicle is always within reach.

A maximum of ten guests per tour, supported by a two-to-three person team. Small enough that everyone is known by name, large enough for a genuine group dynamic on the road and at the table.

You're welcome to do either. We provide premium carbon road bikes, capable gravel bikes, and e-bikes, all fitted to your measurements before you arrive. If you'd prefer to ride your own, we will be happy to assist you with assembly once you arrive. However, we cannot ensure mechanical support as parts and components may be specific to your bike.

Before you arrive, we'll send you a short form to submit your measurements. Bikes will be assembled and adjusted to fit you, with a final check on the morning of the first ride so everything is dialed in. The form also confirms what to bring — namely your own helmet and bike computer, if you ride with one.

Guests make their own way to the Hotel Hospes Palau de la Mar in Valencia by 5pm on Day 1 — the city is well-served by Valencia airport and the national high-speed rail network. On the morning of departure, you're responsible for onward transport to the nearest airport or train station; we'll happily advise on the best route from Altea based on where you're heading.

All accommodation, meals during the tour (breakfasts, on-ride lunches, and three group dinners), full guide and mechanical support, route planning, and luggage transfers between stays. International flights, travel insurance, and personal expenses are not included.

Yes — partners who'd rather explore the region than ride are very welcome. Get in touch and we'll discuss how to shape the trip so everyone gets what they're looking for.

We do. Private journeys for groups of friends, clubs, or family give you the flexibility to set dates, customize the pace, and adjust the route. Get in touch with your group size and rough timing and we'll put together a proposal.

The region's climate makes for excellent year-round riding, but the conditions are at their best between February and May, and again from September through November. This is why professional teams favor the region for off-season training.
